How to Create an Actor Resume for Film, OTT, TV and Advertising

An actor resume should help a casting professional understand your relevant experience quickly. It is not the same as a corporate CV and does not need long descriptions of every responsibility you have ever had. Clear identity, credible credits, useful training and casting-relevant skills matter most.

Place your name prominently. Add your city or base location, languages, playing age range and a professional contact method. Depending on the market, height and other measurements may be useful. Do not publish sensitive personal details such as home address, government identification numbers or financial information.

Organize performance credits by category. Film, television, streaming, theatre, advertising, music video and short-film work can be grouped separately when you have enough experience. Keep project title, role type and production or director information concise. If a project is confidential or unreleased, follow the production's rules before naming it publicly.

Be accurate about role descriptions. A lead, supporting role, featured role, background appearance and promotional shoot are different kinds of work. There is no advantage in inflating a credit if someone can easily verify it later. Reliability begins with truthful representation.

Training belongs on the resume when it is relevant. Include acting workshops, theatre training, voice work, movement, dance, martial arts or other professional preparation that may affect casting. Listing every online video you have ever watched is unnecessary. Focus on structured training or skills you can actually demonstrate.

Languages can be a major advantage in India. Distinguish between languages you speak fluently and those you can perform in with preparation. If you can handle specific dialects or accents credibly, mention them carefully. Do not claim fluency if you cannot sustain a scene in that language.

Special skills should be genuinely usable on set. Driving, swimming, sports, dance forms, singing, instruments, stage combat or specific professional abilities may be valuable. If a production casts you partly because of a listed skill, you should be able to perform it safely and convincingly.

Keep the document visually clean. One page is often enough for beginners. Use readable typography, consistent spacing and simple headings. Your headshot can be included depending on the submission format, but avoid turning the resume into a graphic poster that is difficult to read on a phone.

Create both PDF and plain-text versions. A PDF preserves formatting for email submissions, while plain text is convenient for forms and casting portals. Name the file clearly, for example FirstName_LastName_Actor_Resume.pdf.

Update your resume as your work grows. Remove weak or irrelevant items when stronger credits replace them. A professional resume is not judged by how full the page looks; it is judged by whether the information helps someone understand your casting profile.

Pair the resume with current headshots and appropriate performance material. The resume tells the casting team what you have done. Your audition and reel show what you can do now. Both should support the same honest professional identity.
